On Thursday, February 23, 2017 during halftime of the playoff game between Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and Whitefield Academy here in Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy honored Atlanta native/ Atlanta Hawks star Dwight Howard by retiring his high school #12 jersey.

Dwight Howard was the first overall pick out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy by the Orlando Magic in 2004. Howard led SACA to the state championship as a senior in 2004, was the consensus national Player of the Year (and co-MVP of the McDonald’s High School All-American Game). In 2012, Howard was named as one of the 35 greatest McDonald’s All-Americans. In his four high school seasons, he averaged 16.6 points, 13.4 rebounds and 6.3 blocks in 129 games.

Following his jersey retirement ceremony, we caught up with Dwight Howard to discuss his special moment. Dwight Howard spoke on the honor it was to have his jersey retired, the moment he realized he had the talent to play in the NBA and more.
