Byrd Gang leader Jim Jones has been given the title Vice President of Urban A&R at indepenent distribution label Koch Records.

The Harlem, New York-bred emcee has reacted to the new position.

“It feels good to know that the hard work has been recognized by the same people that have helped me get to this point in my career,” Jones said. “They recognize that I’m not only an artist but a person that can smell talent and be able to mold a superstar.” (Press Release Statement)

His relationship with Koch began in 2004.

Jones released his debut solo album, On My Way To Church in August of 2004, amplifying the Diplomat movement at lightening speed. With rugged collaborations and hardcore life confessions, the album debuted at #18 on the Billboard Top 200 in August 2004. (SOHH)

The announcement comes just over a year since his joint venture with Columbia Records was reported.

KOCH will still be involved in marketing and radio promotion for Jones, and participate in revenue streams, while Columbia will oversee all aspects of his campaigns. Jones will have the best of both worlds as the #1 Indie label and one of the most historic major labels team up with him on his upcoming album. (Hip Hop Press Release)

The rapper has recently released a slew of independent records in the past year.

The album Harlem’s American Gangster appeared in 2008, just as rumors of Jones’ exit from Dipset began to spread. His other release that year, M.O.B.: The Album, introduced his Byrd Gang crew. (All Music)
