Police say an officer discovered the marijuana after pulling a car over that had failed to use a turn signal.
New Castle County Police arrested two women and one man after they say an officer found them in possession of nearly 3.5 pounds of marijuana.
It happened on Saturday around 3 p.m. Police say an officer was on patrol in the town of Sparrow Run when he spotted a red Nissan Altima fail to use a turn signal as it turned from Brookmont Drive onto Route 40.
The officer pulled the car over and walked out to speak with the driver, according to police. As he approached the vehicle, police say the officer smelled a strong odor of an air freshener. Police say he then spoke with the driver of the car, Britney Trigg, 23, of Dover, and conducted a computer check. Police say the officer discovered Trigg was driving with a suspended license. She also allegedly could not provide the officer with an insurance document. Police also say the officer smelled marijuana in the car’s interior.
The officer then asked Trigg and her two passengers, Margareta Neal, 28, of Sparrow Run, and Steven Sage, 27, of Wilmington, to exit the car. Police say the officer discovered Neal was in possession of 54 oxycodone pills and 12.5 grams of marijuana. Police also say that officers found around 3.5 pounds of marijuana packaged in four large zip-lock freezer bags on the rear seat.
Trigg was charged with conspiracy, possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and other related offenses. She was arraigned and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute after failing to post $18,000 secured bail.
Neal was charged with conspiracy, possession of oxycodone pills and other related offenses. She was arraigned and released on $51,000 unsecured bond.
Sage was charged with conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $17,000 secured bail.
