In the last game of the quarterfinals in the Maui Invitational Tournament, Big 12’s Kansas Jayhawks faced the Georgetown Hoyas. In the first four minutes of the game, Big East’s Georgetown couldn’t score a point. Eventually, the sped up their momemtum and got the game rolling. The more competitive the game became the closer the defecit was between both teams throughout the entire game. The last minutes were intensely played, each team leaving their all toward each basket. In the end, #14 Kansas defeat Georgetown with a final score of 67-63.
The Hoyas record is 2-1. After losing some star players due to graduation, the team is expected to perform so-so. No one expects them to make it to the tournament nor does anyone predict them to lose a majority of conference games. There was a lot riding on this game. If the Hoyas could keep their undefeated record safe then they’d have a shot to maintain the positive mentality for a winning season. Their top scorer was Hollis Thompson with 14 points, five rebounds, one steal and one block. Thompson is junior forward who had most success shooting for the night. Other big playmakers for Georgetown were Otto Porter and Greg Whittington. Next up, the Hoyas take on IUPUI at home 7 pm.
Kansas showed out for this game. They always had the Hoyas on their heels but managed to pull out a win. The Jayhawks record is now 2-1. Without his recruited freshman, Coach Bill Self didn’t have high hopes for his offense to dominate the conference. Their star in the game was Thomas Robinson. Robinson scored 20 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, and two blocks. Another superstar is Tyshawn Taylor and Jeff Withey. Taylor, who is senior guard, had been a Jayhawks veteran shooting the most three points. Next up, Kansas take on the UCLA Bruins in Round Two of the tournament.
