Kevin Durant’s backpack back story dates back to his childhood in Maryland. His love of backpacks continued on to his college days in Austin, Texas; then on to Seattle, when he was drafted by the Sonics; up to today in Oklahoma City… with many pit stops along the way.
“Since I was seven years old, I’ve always been attached to my backpack,” Durant said. “It represents the hard work I learned from my family, and it will always remind me of my journey to get to where I am.”
So what’s in the bag?
“Those who know me know I like to keep it simple,” Durant said. “I carry three key things in my backpack – my headphones, bible and chargers. Sometimes my shoes, socks, ball, iPad and water are also along for the ride.”
DESIGN DETAILS
Like Durant, you can’t judge everything by what you see on the surface — there’s usually a deeper story hidden beneath the exterior. Nike Basketball’s design team creates product that serves a precise functional purpose, whether it’s a backpack, jersey, sock, basketball or shoe. The goal is to design the best possible product for the athlete. There’s also a deeper story on the design, materials, fabrication and functionality.
The KD Hoops Elite Ball Backpack is a lightweight and water-resistant bag designed for practical functionality with insight from Kevin. The backpack is made of water-resistant ripstop nylon, offering lightweight durability.
The internal organization panel includes a lined pocket with zippered closure for small items. The larger, zippered main compartment allows easy access to main items, such as a basketball, while the exterior insulated pocket keeps beverages cool.
Padded and adjustable shoulder straps allow for comfort while carrying and they feature the KD logo on right strap and Nike Swoosh on the left strap.
Each design element serves a purpose and came from collaboration with Durant himself.
The Nike KD Hoops Elite Ball Backpack launches globally in December and debuts in the Black/Photo Blue/Total Orange color. In January 2013, the second color (Ice Blue/Total Orange/Squadron Blue) is available, followed by the third color (Hyper Blue/Blackened Blue/Volt) in April 2013. The backpack will be available at Nike.com and select retail locations.” – Nike
