The 76ers, who were hoping to get a look at rookie forward Arnett Moultrie on the floor against NBA talent, will have to wait a little longer than expected.

Moultrie, whom the Sixers acquired in a trade from Miami at last week’s draft, will not play in the Orlando 2012 Pro Summer League July 9 to 13 because of a sprained left ankle. The injury occurred during a predraft workout in Sacramento on June 25.

Moultrie will make the trip to Orlando to continue receiving treatment on the ankle. He’s also going because the Sixers want to introduce him to the team’s defensive schemes.

The Sixers acquired the draft rights to Moultrie – the 27th overall pick – in exchange for the 45th pick in the draft (rights to Justin Hamilton) and a lottery-protected future first-round pick.

The summer league allows teams to see draft picks, undrafted free agents, and other NBA hopefuls compete in a full-court setting.

As for free agency, the Sixers, with limited cap room, have expressed interest in re-signing free agents Spencer Hawes and Lou Williams. If they exercise the amnesty clause on Elton Brand, a provision that would allow his more than $18 million salary to come off the books, the Sixers could be more active in free agency.
