Joe Paterno and his Legacy is Threatened when Talk of his Statue’s Removal Arises
Joe Paterno, former Penn State football head coach, passed away January 22, 2012. Yet, we are still talking about this man like he is alive! All of the Joe Pa drama needs to stop so the world can let this man rest in peace. Not only that but now there is a lot of clamor going about taking his beloved statue down. People are saying the Joe Paterno statue is a reminder of the Sandusky Scandal and it is tarnishing the reputation of the University by placing in front of the football stadium. Maybe it should remain on campus, but in another spot, which would be unusual.
Penn State Board of Trustees have decided, for now, that the backlash of the scandal will not effect the University’s view on the statue and that it will remain where it is. They are communicating to the alumni, students, and Joe Paterno family that his legacy remains untarnished in their eyes. Despite his role in the cover-up of the Sandusky Scandal, taking the statue down would offend most.
