After what has been a bunch of back and fourth trade talks between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angles Clippers, Celtics GM Danny Ainge has agreed to part ways with now former Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers sending him to the Los Angeles Clippers for a first round pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Rivers who won a NBA Championship in 2008 with the Celtics is largely considered one of the top 3 head coaches in the NBA. The Clippers who fired their head coach Vinny Del Negro in May will pick up Rivers’ contract with Boston meaning he will have a three year, $21 million deal with the Clippers.
Now rumors will really begin to surface with NBA free agency starting July 1 and there already being trade talks about sending Celtics forward Kevin Garrett to the Clippers for center DeAndre Jordan and possibly signing Paul Pierce as well. The Clippers front office also hopes that signing Rivers will ink the deal with all-star point guard Chris Paul who the Clippers hope to sign to a max deal this off season. Details of this trade are still being worked out and when it’s all said and done we may hear from NBA commissioner David Stern about teams making trades for coaches.
