2012-13 NBA sixth man of the year J.R. Smith may have just played the best season of his young career and now he is looking to be paid for it.
Smith is coming off a season where he averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds a night coming off the bench and he was a huge reason the New York Knicks had their best season in nearly 20 years. Those points also contribute to the reason Smith has decided to Opt out of his contract and test the NBA free agent market.
The Knicks can offer Smith $5 million per year to stay in Blue and orange but a team with a higher cap and sneak in and offer Smith a much larger deal pulling him away. NBA free agency begins July 1,2013 so stay tuned for more news on J.R. Smith and where he lands next.
