Let’s start this off with with a twitter post from Frank Ocean himself back in 2012, which was later deleted:

Frank Ocean’s father, Calvin Cooksey, is out for another check. It appears that Russell Simmons’s website, Global Grind, kept it a little too real as far as explaining the relationship between the channel ORANGE Grammy winner & his father. They actually don’t have a relationship at all, which Cooksey claims to be the case because Ocean’s mother kept him from seeing his son. GG went on to refer to Cooksey as a “deadbeat dad” in an article on the site and so in response to that, Cooksey fired back at Russell Simmons with a whopping $142 million lawsuit for defamation of character.
