Here is part one of HHS1987‘s interview with esteemed battle rapper Loaded Lux at the 2014 SXSW Music Festival. Lux sits down with HHS1987’s Rick Dange and speaks on his upcoming mixtape and rematch with Murda Mook, Eminem-backed reality TV show, longevity in battle rap, the newfound profitability of battle rap culture, & more.
After speaking on his upcoming Beloved 2 mixtape, Lux went into detail about his impending battle with fellow battle rap vet Murda Mook. “We’re rekindling this old flame,” Lux said of the battle. “This is my first rematch ever, man, [and] it’s gonna be against Murda Mook. I believe in my heart of hearts [that he’s] one of my most formidable opponents that I’ve ever faced in the ring. [He’s] also one of the predecessors, if you ask me, to the new age of doing things. So this is gonna be one for the ages. ”
Along with this bombshell revelation, Lux divulged that it will be done on a new platform for battle rap: reality television. He also stated that it will be presented by a legendary rapper with deep roots in battle rap: Eminem.
“If I’m not mistaken, I believe the battle is July 12th and it’s gonna be done with Shady [Records]. The show is gonna be [entitled] Total Slaughter. They fused it with a reality show setting [to] give people a more in-depth look at the characters that’s in battle rap and what we represent and […] what we go through to make this thing a show. I think it’s a good look. Shout out to Shady [Records] and them shedding more light on the culture.”
“I love what I do,” Lux said when asked about what he attributes his longevity in battle rap to. “I’m in love with what I do. I’m real passionate about the craft, the art. I think we all have that thing to where it’s almost therapy for us. When we’re doing it we’re just the most peaceful in are mental states. That has to do with you having a sense of purpose in terms of why you’re here. We’re all here to fill a void, some way or another, to make the world go ‘round. I just love what I do.”
Lux also gave his feelings on his classic battles with Calicoe and Hollow Da Don and discussed his favorite battle rappers.
