University of Georgia running back started out this season as a strong candidate to win the Heisman trophy and possible lead UGA to a national title.
Those hopes took a hit when he was suspended by the university for allegedly selling his signature. He was accused by the school of signing about 400 pieces of memorabilia for a dealer. Before the NCAA could get involved, the school decided to make a decision. That decision was to hold Gurley out for a few games.
After two games have passed, Gurley has yet to suit up again for the team. Meanwhile, Florida State University was going through the same issues as Georgia after it was found that last years Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston signed more that 900 pieces for a dealer.
In Florida State’s case, they decided to allow Jameis to play until they get evidence that he took money to sign.
That difference has been noticed by Georgia Bulldog fans. With Gurley still one the sidelines as the Dogs get set to play Arkansas this weekend, a ‘Free Gurley’ movement was started.
Even Gurley himself was seen wearing a shirt. As we get closer to Saturday’s kick-off, we’ll see if the school will in fact, ‘Free Gurly.’
