NBA commissioner Adam Silver set a extremely high standard yesterday in the case of Donald Sterling and his racist history but should we really be happy.
Yesterday the NBA banned Sterling for life, fined him 2.5 million dollars and made statements of trying to force Sterling to sell his team but is that really enough? Donald Sterling has been the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers since 1981 and he has had several different race issues surface from then to now so why is this the first time that the NBA has stepped up and done something about it.
I also find it extremely funny that the NBA and Adam Silver made an announcement of Sterling’s punishment on the day of the Clippers home game when the NBA faced a chance of losing millions. Almost four days went by before Silver’s scheduled press conference and Silver had no choice but to hit Sterling with a lifetime ban due to rumors of a boycott from all six NBA teams scheduled to play last night.
Ignorance still exist in the world and no matter what decision the NBA made with Donald Sterling that won’t change. We live in a world that isn’t black and white. The only color that really matters is green. I feel this decision was really all about money and that as a black man this wasn’t a victory for us. Stay tuned to HHS1987 for more NBA news.
