Recently, during Peter Thomas’ “Salute To Excellence” award ceremony here in Atlanta, HHS1987 caught up with Hip-hop mogul Debra Antney to discuss her role in today’s Hip-Hop game, breaking artist, Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta and much more.
Debra Antney aka Ms. Deb is responsible for many of today’s hottest acts in Hip-Hop. Having helped break artist such as Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, French Montana and many others, Ms. Deb spoke on discovering talent and what it takes to break artist. With Ms. Deb being so instrumental in hip-hop over the past 15 years or more, we spoke to her about the current state of Hip-Hop and what her thoughts of it are.
Coming off of a successful season of VH1’s hit reality show “Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta”, Ms. Deb spoke on the season as a whole and the drama that broke out during the reunion segment. Ms. Deb explained that she enjoyed her time on the show and that one bad apple will never spoil the bunch.
Before concluding the interview, Ms. Deb elaborated on her other endeavors with her radio station BE100 Radio. Creating the station for independent artist, Ms. Deb spoke on being tired of hearing the same music on the radio and wanting to open a door for indie artist to be heard. Ms. Deb ended the interview by informing us of her upcoming show “Who Got Next”, a TV show where she will discover the next big male or female hip-hop, working with her new artist and moving into the sports world.
