There are four bridges that connect Staten Island to the rest of the world and outside of that, this small New York borough often called “Shaolin” is a realm unto itself. But new collective of rappers and producers named Tribe Gvng have emerged from the shadows of Staten Island to find some success and a rabid fan base.
I was in high school and I met one of the producers of EFF DOPE, and he met the whole gang at SAE. And Su and Juice are the one’s that founded TribeGvng like 5 years ago. We all live in the same zip code, Metta Cvse of Tribe
“Juice met Vice, and Lou Carter brought Cvse along. Vice from Atlanta and came all the way up here to chase the dream. We just began recording writing about real life, the ups and downs of life, we don’t fabricate, but we are really diverse. We are fans of music so we make anything that sounds and feels good,” Su Bviley explained.
But since dropping V for All in February of 2014, the Tribe Gvng has spent the majority of their time recording new music, performing their previously recorded material and letting fans get to know their different personalities.
“I think the diversity in the group is crazy because we all see different parts of the game, we get the boom bap, we get the trap, everyone makes really different music. We spent all this time in New York piecing a lot of different parts of the culture and pulling it all together as one,” Juice said.
Now after one of their break out songs, “To Shaolin” with British talent Danny Seth has caught like wildfire, the group is ready to let their sound be heard again. This December the group takes things to another level with their first full length project Cvtch 22 that will debut via Sound City Music Group/Ingrooves on.
