While we’ve seen his name under the producer credits on albums from Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar – just to name a few – it has been 16 years since Dr. Dre released his own album. With the blockbuster release of “Compton,” we were finally able to get what we’ve all been waiting for. Having produced the film’s soundtrack, “Compton: A Soundtrack,” Dr. Dre has taken the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 after selling approx. 295,000 units in its first week.
Other interesting facts:
– 25,000,000 = The number of times Dr. Dre’s “Compton” was streamed in the first week of its release.
– “Compton” is the third highest selling rap debut of 2015, surpassing Meek Mill’s “Dreams Worth More Than Money.”
– “Compton” was sold exclusively on Apple Music for its first two weeks.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, put it on your “To Do” list this week and buy the soundtrack while you’re at it.
