Almost a year ago, Tracy Morgan and others were traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike when their limousine bus was rear-ended by a Walmart truck. The accident left one dead, two injured, and the comedian with multiple broken bones and brain injury. Tracy was in the hospital for several months following the fatal accident. After a year in court, Tracy and Walmart have settled their lawsuit. The comedian said Walmart “did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their famiies. I’m grateful that the case was resolved amicably.” Previous to Tracy’s suit the family of James “Jimmy Mack” McNair settled with the company for $10 million which will be paid monthly to his family.
Walmart CEO, Greg Foran, issued a statement about the suit saying,
Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was involved in the accident. While we know there is nothing that can change what happened, Walmart has been committed to doing what’s right to help ensure the well-being of all of those who were impacted by the accident. We worked closely with Mr. Morelli, and we are pleased to have reached an amicable settlement that ends this litigation. We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved.
