In a recent interview with Ty Dolla $ign, JENISIS Magazine gets the Taylor Gang recording artist to reveal that not only has he’s been in the studio with Kanye West but he’s recorded 7 tracks, including “Only One” featuring Sir Paul McCartney which he provided back ground vocals for, among other things.
Check out a transcribed version of the conversation curated by Trevor Leard after the jump and check out the extended audio recording of the encounter above!
So let’s take it way back…
Ty Dolla $ign: Let’s take it back to when my dick first got hard. You see my dick first got hard in the third grade. Shit, this girl showed me her coochie right up under the table. Her name was Jennifer; I showed her my wee wee.
[Laughs] Ok, ok so let’s talk about one of your first hits “Rollin” with Pac Div
T: That shit was incredible; I recorded it at this studio called Red Bull Studios in LA. It’s where they basically let all the dope artists’ book time for free and it was a crazy professional studio. We put that song out, Pac Div did his thing and we started touring. I was staying just like a studio rat and that was the seed that made this big ass tree right now.
So now let’s move along to “Toot It And Boot It” how was this different than “Rollin’” and what was your mind state?
T: Rollin was like more of the music I really vibed to at the time and Toot It And Boot It was a club joint. I really hate the club to be real with you. I hate going it’s the same fuckin shit every time, but at the same time you get to meet a lot of beautiful girls so now I end up falling in love with it. That song was like a five minute joint, literally the hook in five minutes YG did the verse in 15 minutes. It ended up being the song that put me on, so I was rollin the whole time.
So let’s move along to Paranoid, how were you feeling about his track?
T: “Paranoid” compared to “Toot It and Boot It” was that I seasoned the sound more. “Toot It and Boot It” was like the first ratchet song when it comes to the ratchet movement. But once DJ Mustard got his shit poppin’, he just threw me the beat and I ended up doing my shit. It sounded advanced compared to “Toot It and Boot It” for sure. Just the sound of it, the mix is better of course, I was signed to Atlantic by then so I had professionals do it so it sounds better.
How about Sign Language, how did you go about this tape?
T: Sign Language was my newest project, it’s a little slower. I got back on my urban shit; I did a lot of dance party shit. It was coming out as started to get colder so I knew the snow was coming and usually people get girlfriends. It was cuffing season so I put out a cuffing tape.
