Kanye West fans have been eagerly awaiting a supporting tour announcement following the release of his seventh studio album The Life of Pablo. Good news may be headed those fans way shortly as multiple sources connected to Kanye’s camp have speculated a TLOP tour could be revealed this month. If announced, this would be Kanye West’s first solo tour since The Yeezus Tour in 2013.
Last month Kanye made major waves with a live stream of “Yeezy Season 3” at Madison Square Garden. The event was marketed as a fashion show and TLOP listening party, but there was prior debate and confusion as to whether the rapper/designer would be giving a live performance or just debuting his new album and clothing line. While no live performance was given, Kanye managed to fill 20,000 seats, selling out MSG on a Thursday afternoon. Since the Yeezy Season 3 event and the eventual release of TLOP days later, fans have been waiting for word on when they will be able to get their hands on some Kanye West tickets. The only upcoming date on Kanye’s schedule is a headlining slot at NYC’s Governors Ball Music Festival. With the rest of his summer wide open, rumors of a tour have been buzzing around for a while.
This would mark Kanye’s first tour in three years since spanning the country in support of Yeezus in 2013. The Yeezus Tour was extremely successful early on, with resale tickets at an average of $320 during the first month of the tour. That success was short-lived as the Kanye’s team soon found themselves in trouble after low ticket sales and low demand caused vendors to cut ticket prices by as much as 50% to fill seats. Tickets to the second half of the tour weren’t selling due to poor booking and more dates been added to cities that Yeezus had already played.
After already earning $ 2.3 million on back-to-back nights at Barclays Center and $3 million in back-to-back nights at MSG, more Tri-State Area shows were added to the end of The Yeezus Tour. The shows added included Nassau Coliseum, Prudential Center, and Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, they all tanked. The Kansas City stop of The Yeezus Tour was the most disappointing, only selling 4,500 of the 19,000 seats. Yeezus was also Kanye’s worst selling album, his only release where sales never broke a million copies.
Secondary market ticket prices for the rumored The Life of Pablo tour should be similar to what the Yeezus tour saw early on. Whether for good or bad, Kanye West has taken over the media recently, and despite all of his antics, the long awaited release of TLOP was well received by fans. Though album sales figures are not available due to the it’s exclusive release on Tidal, 20 million people tuned into the Yeezy Season 3 stream for a sneak peak of the album, and subscriptions to Tidal more than doubled from 1 million to 2.5 million after the albums released.
