The 2016-17 NBA season is underway and things were rocking at Philips Arena here in Atlanta on Thursday night as the Atlanta Hawks opened the 2016-17 season against John Wall and the Washington Wizards.
Not only was Thursday night special with it being opening night, it was also Atlanta native Dwight Howard’s first official home game in a Atlanta Hawks uniform. Not only did Dwight Howard play big in his first home game at Philips Arena, the Hawks walking away with a victory to start the season (1-0). After being all tied up at halftime, the Atlanta Hawks make the proper adjustments at the half and a 33 point fourth quarter helped them defeat the Wizards (114-99).
For the Hawks, the leading scorer on the night was Paul Millsap who put up 28 points and 7 rebounds in just 30 minutes of action. Dwight Howard and newly re-signed point guard Dennis Schroder made key contributions to the team. Howard finished the game with 11 points and 19 rebounds while Schroder accounted for 14 points. Washington Wizards star Markieff Morris scored 22 points while Bradley Beal scored 13 and John Wall scored 12 points.
