Tuesday’s meeting between Atlanta and Phoenix marked the first of two games between the teams over a six-day stretch.
Atlanta’s 91-87 win over Phoenix Tuesday night snapped a three-game losing streak against Phoenix including two consecutive losses at home vs. the Mercury.
The Atlanta Dream needed Tuesday night victory as they look to advance to the 2016 WNBA playoffs. Atlanta opened up a double-digit (31-20) lead with a 10-0 run over the final minute of the first quarter and the opening two-and-a-half minutes of the second quarter. Atlanta Dream rookie Bria Holmes has registered double-figure points in five of her six starts during her rookie season following her 18-point contribution Tuesday. Holmes also had a career night as she recorded personal highs in points (18), rebounds (6), steals (5) and assists (3).
Atlanta Dream star Angel McCoughtry recorded 27 points against Phoenix marking her 26th double-figure point game this season and 16th game this season with 20 points or more. Following the game, Terrell Thomas caught up with Angel McCoughtry to speak on her 27 point night, Tiffany Hayes in the final moments of the game and what it will take to move on to the 2016 WNBA postseason.
