Philadelphia has a rich music history and even richer Hip-Hop history. In addition to being known as the home of some of the best DJs the culture has to offer, it’s also the birthplace of a wide spectrum of MCs ranging from the Fresh Prince to Black Thought to Meek Mill to Lil Uzi Vert. With such a diverse talent pool, it only makes sense than an artist like Philly native Leeb Godchild come to carry the torch into the future.
Godchild has had a knack for making music for as long as he can remember. Growing up he played drums and keyboard. If he got bored enough, he’d even pound out beats on the kitchen table or the wall at home.
Godchild started to get into rap in middle school when him and friends would battle each other at lunch. “It was the highlight of our day” he adds. However, music wasn’t his first love. It was basketball. It wasn’t until he moved to California to play college basketball that he fell back in love with music.
Godchild wrote and recorded a pair of independent projects that he released online in 2012 and 2013. He had no intentions or desire to push the projects like he felt they deserved. “I just liked making music for my friends,” he admits. “I always felt like if I got into the business, it would take away from my love for the music.”
After a while however, Godchild looked up and he’d been recording music for almost 5 years. At that point he realized that just maybe he was supposed to be a professional musician.
His debut single “Flex” is a song that will give listeners an idea of what to expect from his music. Leeb is currently working on a mixtape you can expect late October/early November. Take a moment and watch Money Hungry Inc’s own Leeb Godchild’s new video for his record “Flex” above.
