I can’t wait for the 2017 WNBA season to tip off! The Atlanta Dream will tip off its historic 10th season at its new home, McCamish Pavilion on the Georgia Tech campus, on Sunday, May 21 against the Chicago Sky, according to the 2017 WNBA schedule, which was released Tuesday by league officials.
Coming off the franchise’s seventh playoff appearance, the Dream will open the 2017 season on the road against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 13 as part of WNBA Tip-Off powered by Verizon. View the entire schedule here.
“We are excited to be celebrating our 10th season in 2017,” Dream president Theresa Wenzel said. “While we have a new home at McCamish Pavilion, we are confident our fans will find it to be an easily accessible arena and an energized environment well worth the trip. We can’t wait to get on the court and make the members of our community proud to Run with the Dream.”
The WNBA reworked its scheduling format prior to the 2016 season to create a more balanced look as teams will now play each other a minimum of three times, regardless of conference affiliation. This year, the Dream will play four games against Elena Delle Donne and conference rival the Chicago Sky.
The 2017 home schedule includes nine games against Western Conference opponents and 11 weekend dates, including a pair of games against the reigning WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks (May 27/June 30). The Dream will also host a pair of games against Lawrenceville, Ga., native Maya Moore and the Minnesota Lynx (July 28/August 8) at McCamish Pavilion.
The Dream will take its longest road-trip of the season in June when the team travels to five cities over two weeks, with games at the Washington Mystics (June 4), New York Liberty (June 7), Sun (June 10), Seattle Storm (June 13) and Indiana Fever (June 15). No other road trip will last more than two games in 2017.
Atlanta will make its lone appearance on ESPN2 when it travels to Minnesota on August 3 beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The 2017 Atlanta Dream preseason schedule will be announced at a later date.
The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream is entering its 10th season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
The Dream will play their home games at McCamish Pavilion. Atlanta has qualified for the playoffs seven times, winning conference titles in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
