Philly, the star of the Future is set to be playing in a Philadelphia Sixers jersey for the next few years if he stays healthy. Once a standout star for the University of Kansas, the Philadelphia 76ers and their third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Joel Embiid have agreed to a five year $148 million extension.

Embiid only played in 31 games during the 2016-17 NBA season however according to NBA.com, Embiid averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.5 blocks in 25 minutes per game. He shot .466 from the field, .367 from three-point range (ranked fourth among all NBA centers, min. 70 attempts) and .783 from the free-throw line. He led all rookies in points, rebounds and blocks per game and his averages in those categories were the highest of any NBA rookie since 2011, when the Clippers’ Blake Griffin earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Now the only question will be can Joel Embiid stay healthy for 82 games a season. The Sixers have an array of youth talent and I believe if the team can stay healthy, they have a chance to make some real noise in the Eastern conference. The Philadelphia Sixers open the 2017-18 NBA season Wednesday October 18th on the road against John Wall and the Washington Wizards.
