John Legend Makes History As First Black Man With EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar & Tony)!

John Legend is surely living up to his name! The singer made history this week as he became the first Black man to win the prestigious EGOT – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar & Tony (Award)! The collection was complete after Legend won an Emmy as producer for NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar, Live in Concert.”

How big of a deal is this? Only 14 other people have reached this historic feat in their careers. Legend has 10 Grammys, 1 Oscar, 1 Tony & now 1 Emmy. Congrats!

Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competitive categories. Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar. So happy to be part of this team. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air. #EGOT
