The time has finally come.
Kanye West’s ninth studio solo album, “JESUS IS KING” has arrived! The release comes is in conjunction with the global drop of his IMAX film of the same title. Eleven tracks deep, the album – heavily inspired by his Christian Fatih – boasts guest features from Sunday Service Choir, Ty Dolla $ign, Ant Clemons, Fred Hammond, Clipse and Kenny G.
The opening track, “Every Hour,” magnetizes listeners with uplifting chords from Sunday Service Choir which segues into “Selah,” where Kanye proclaims that “we the defenders of Abraham” – complimented by chants of “hallelujah.” Continuing the album’s religious theme, every track is defined by uplifting themes – a shift from Ye’s usually lyrical antics.
As influential as Kanye West has become, it’s inspiring to hear his transformation throughout the years. Turning to “Gospel Rap” is definitely a side step from his usual but proves his versatility and most importantly, his growth..
