Nancy Gomes – Sugar And Spice (EP)

April 12, 2020 0

On her absolutely stunning new EP Sugar And Spice, singer-songwriter Nancy Gomes combines powerful vocals, sharply penned lyrics, and speaker-rattling production into one of the most standout indie R&B releases of the year to date. In just three tracks, she makes a musical statement on par with many full-length debuts, and she’s only just getting started.

And if her voice sounds familiar, you may be acquainted with one of her closest collaborators, Fluent. They worked together on several of his most prominent tracks while she was honing her craft and writing what would eventually become, Sugar And Spice, which is being released through Fluent’s Supreme Regime imprint.

Your ears will be treated to plenty of sugar and spice on the EP’s three tracks, all of which bring their own flavor. And because of that, chances are you may get stuck on a certain song at first before obsessing over the next. Whether it’s the opening kiss-off anthem “Go Away,” the moody and lovelorn “The Same,” produced by Benji Yang, or the more celebratory “Someone Like You”—co-produced by Gummy Beatz & Ira Parker— there’s plenty to love on here. But for Gomes personally, she favors the JGlad Music-produced “Go Away” because of what it represents for her.

“‘Go Away’ is basically me saying ‘I’m too f*cking good for you, please leave me TF alone,’” she says. “I wanted this song to be a creation of an official boundary for those men who feel as though they can lie, manipulate and mentally abuse me, and other women.”

Writing “Go Away” was a healing process for Gomes, who is beyond-excited to share not just that track but the entire EP with the world. And once you hear for yourself, you’ll no doubt share that same excitement. Sugar And Spice is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms.
