“I feel like I’m Tune right before the ‘tune”

Melvoni’s star-turning 2020 continues today with the release of “Chrome,” a sinister but buoyant anthem about the determination that’s helped make him one of the brightest Brooklyn-bred prospects in recent history. He’s spent the year releasing infectious singles on Melvoni Approved Fridays (MAF) that mark his territory as a force to be reckoned with out of the famed King’s County. “Chrome” is no different.

As is customary with Melvoni, “Chrome” isn’t all braggadocio and vanity. “I feel like I’m Tune right before the tune,” he raps at one point, ensuring that he doesn’t break from his flow pocket. The nod to prime Lil’ Wayne one of the slicker one-liners you’ll hear from the 16-year-old artist, but it’s hardly an anomaly. His ability to seamlessly blend wordplay and melody into his work is what’s earned him a spot on the radars of millions in 2020. “Chrome,” a shining example of that dexterity, is a song you only need to hear once to love.

Melvoni’s rise might be awe-inspiring to the average eye, but his momentum heading into 2021 isn’t all that surprising. Despite his youth he’s been diligently consistent, from releases like “Penny Up” and “One Man Army” over the summer, to “Stackhouse,” a standout from his #MelvoniApprovedFriday campaign. Additionally, a captivating freestyle appearance on Funk Flex’s #FunkFlexBlockwork show has Melvoni right where he wants to be as the fourth quarter transitions into the new year: within striking distance of true stardom.

“It was the struggle, but you don’t really know it’s the struggle,” starts the Brooklyn rapper as he tells the Pigeons & Planes team about his upbringing. His positive outlook on what was constant struggle in his childhood helps explain his approach to music, and his ability to bring brightness to the darkest of themes.

It’s a natural talent that’s brought the prolific teenager to the cusp of a completely new life, and by all accounts it’ll take him much further than that.

ABOUT MELVONI:

When Melvoni screams, “I’m from New York,” it tells you everything you need to know. The 16-year-old Brooklyn wunderkind represents the toughest spirit of New York through and through. Born to Jamaican parents, he spent his childhood back-and-forth between the States and Jamaica. Facing hardship growing up, he ditched his first part-time job AAND turned to the streets. Yet, he took that hustle to the studio as soon as possible, recording music and catching the attention of his manager outside of a concert.  In the aftermath, he found himself in an L.A. studio recording “No Man’s Land”—which originally might’ve featured the late and great Pop Smoke.

Rapping with fire and fury, he bodies minimalist production upheld by organic instrumentation. He quietly clawed his way to the forefront of the Borough’s 21st century vanguard with nearly 8 million views and 5 million streams. As “Memories” caught on, Pitchfork claimed, “It’s only a matter of time until “Memories” is playing from every Bluetooth speaker as New York City high schools dismiss.” Touted by Genius, Lyrical Lemonade, Elevator Magazine, Fashionably Early, and more, he inked a deal with Epic Records and emerged as a voice for his city in 2020. He’s ready to go worldwide.
