Rubi Rose has been celebrating the holiday season with the surprise release of her debut mixtape, For The Streets. On her new body of work, the Eritrean-American rapper exudes confidence and charisma as she embraces her newfound status among the leading ladies of rap.
For The Streets begins with an adrenaline-pumping intro which includes an appearance from the illustrious rapper Cardi B who affirms Rubi’s natural talent and unique voice among her peers. Rubi is later joined by the Atlanta-native Future and the OVO signee PARTYNEXTDOOR on the intoxicating track, “Whole Lotta Liquor.” Another standout from the project is Rubi’s previously released single, “He In His Feelings” (15+ million streams) on which Rubi boasts about what it means to be a savage in 2020: giving her man from the count of two to ten to drop the bag. Rubi Rose has quickly become one of hip hop’s latest breakout stars. In less than a year, she’s successfully transitioned from model and video vixen to full fledged recording artist, garnering over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify and ovee 50 million streams in the process. The GSU educated, multilingual rapper has attained high-profile collaborations with Yella Breezy, NLE Choppa, Rico Nasty, and Wiz Khalifa to name a few. Earlier this year Rubi Rose also earned a co-sign from Cardi B, landing herself a cameo in her nationally acclaimed music video for “WAP.” As Rubi Rose gears up for a new year filled with big plans, For The Streets is the pleasant holiday surprise to end 2020. A bilingual Georgia State-educated daughter of Eritrean professionals, Rose routinely serves up original, explicit, and unrestrained lyrical skills with a fully liberated style. And since joining the HITCO family she’s continued to rise to the top of her game with the success of her introductory singles “Big Mouth,”“Hit Yo Dance” featuring Yella Beezy & NLE Choppa, and “He In His Feelings.” With her mixtape, For The Streets, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world falls under the Rubi Rose spell.
Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, Rubi Rose spent some formative years living in Geneva, Switzerland before returning stateside. Rose and her three sisters were raised by a dentist mother and lawyer father, whose influence was not only felt through their career pursuits but also through their love of music. Rose’s parents routinely woke the family up in the morning with the sounds of music, making the artform an indelible part of her upbringing.
Inspirations like Prince and Nicki Minaj weave through Rose’s music, both noted for their ability to embody sex and sensuality in their work. Perfectly showcasing her sexiness, fearlessness and power, For The Streets speaks directly to these influences in songs like “Whole Lotta Liquor” featuring Future & PARTYNEXTDOOR, “Intro” and “Viral.” Whether it’s through up-tempo bars or slowed-down sultry spittin’, it’s impossible not to lock-in to Rose’s unwavering confidence in who she is and what she wants. And though she’s seen a lot on her journey in a relatively short time, her meticulously planned takeover has just begun.
