Rucci’s second album Midget sees the LA rapper in his most self-reflective state — his raps still drip in pride for his hometown of Inglewood, he will always memorialize his late rap partner SeanMackkand shout out the rest of his Mackk & Co., crew, but where the album really excels is when we get to hear a little more about what Rucci is going through. After the release of 2019’s Tako’s Son, Rucci experienced a level of fame he hadn’t yet, and he explores the benefits and drawbacks of this on Midget — he has accomplished so much, but he feels the pressure and excitement of knowing he hasn’t reached his full potential. The title comes from a nickname his mom gave him when he was a child, because he’s “just a small guy in a big world.” And while the album is an intimate look into where Rucci’s at, there’s plenty of songs tailor-made for the function, because at the end of the day Rucci is going to turn up and he’s going to celebrate.
