Speech of Arrested Development fame has returned with, Expansion Pt. 1, marking his first solo release in 14 years. Comprised of four new tracks—along with the visuals for the single, “Just Too Cold,” featuring Rambo and Danny B.—the project highlights the veteran emcee’s evolution as an artist, as well as the wisdom he’s gained over the years. Expansion doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, it’s simply Speech in his purest essence.
“’Expansion’ is the start of my dream being realized. Even now, I know when I drop music the only people that are truly invested are the real fans, and I want that. I wanna build from the ground up—a true and passionate conscious hip-hop movement,” says Speech.
In addition to production from MRK SX, the EP features Christian Mombru—an instructor at Speech’s arts school The Victory Spot, who contributes to “Seeing For The First Time”—along with rising Kenyan hip-hop star Xtatic. Expansion Pt. 1 also boasts a guest spot from Ke’Andra on “Do It” and “Way Down Here,” which Ke’Andra co-wrote with Rambo.
According to Speech, there’s much more on the horizon. Expect to see further installments of Expansion shortly, along with a new album from Arrested Development due out this summer.
