Setting the record straight, Teyana Taylor clears the air on why she’s retiring from music!
Taking to social media, the R&B songstress revealed that she’s no longer making music. And that this decision was what was best for her mental health and her family. During her IG Live reveal, Teyana addressed her fans as she went on to explain how “under-appreciated” she felt in the industry – especially within her label. She assured them that her retirement had “nothing to do with a GRAMMY,” and that she’s just “tired.”
“I”m tired, baby. I’m tired.”
Taking direct aim at her label, G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam, Teyana voiced how she felt they never had her best interest in mind and that they never set her up for success. She revealed that she asked Def Jam to drop her from the label on “almost 10 different occasions.”
As her fans who watched the Live chimed in and begged for her to not give up, Teyana addressed them as well. “I gotta do it for my mental health. I have to do it for my kids, so I can stay alive for my kids.”
Teyana’s friends in the industry seemed to show their support in her decisoin as artists like Cardi B chimed in, claiming Teyana’s “The ALbum” was the best of 2020. The Game also celebrated Teyana and encouraged her to continue on.
“Live in your glory & never be detoured by the minds of those weakened by this watered down era of appreciation,” he wrote. “YOUR GIFT IS SO APPRECIATED & as your big bro I want you to know, you are truly one of the best artist/people inside & outside of music I’ve ever known. NEVER TIP THE CROWN QUEEN.”
