Luke also known as The Vujà Dé is a multitalented singer/songwriter hailing from Dallas, TX. He’s been steadily releasing music independently under various names for about 6 to 7 years. The Vujà Dé’s first album was a genre blend of alternative/r&b/funk, but he wanted to switch it up a bit for album two. After producing for other artists, he decided to integrate those sounds into his own music. The Vujà Dé recently released his second album titled “All My Reasons”, entirely produced, mixed, and mastered by himself. Get to know The Vujà Dé in his interview below.
What do you want others to take from your music? Is there a certain message you are looking to get across with your music?
I’m just telling stories that I’m hoping people can relate to. Sometimes the music tells its own story and the lyrics aren’t as important with my songs. I just want to make music that gives people energy and inspiration throughout their day, as cheesy as that sounds.
If you could work with 3 present artists, who would they be?
Pharrell, Ernest Greene (Washed Out), Travis Barker.
If you could work with 3 artists from the past, who would they be?
Nujabes, J Dilla, Prince
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Doing what I’m doing now but on a bigger scale.
What do you have planned for the rest of the year? New music anytime soon?
I’ll be playing a couple shows and trying to get this second project heard by as many people as possible. I have a third project I’m about halfway through writing right now.. I’ll probably drop a single from that by December called “Alien”. I’ve already been playing it at shows and people are seeming to dig it so I’m excited to drop that.
What separates you from everyone else that is creating music these days?
My plans of tapping into so many different genres that I’m inspired by. When people listen back through my catalogue in the future, it’s going to be a really interesting evolution of sound throughout all the different albums.
Is a tour or any events planned for the near future?
Nothing planned as of now, most shows I’ve been playing have been booked last minute. But I definitely want to tour and play festivals around the world.. I envision all of that.
What is it like to completely bet on yourself with this music path you are choosing to pursue? Talk to us about the highs and the lows of this all, the pressures?
It’s a very strange time in our world and I feel like all industries are going through major changes right now. In some ways it’s scary but I also think there is about to be a lot of opportunity for up and coming artists like myself. I’m glad that I’m not trying to retain any massive success or attention at the moment because this is such a politically charged time to be in the spotlight. The only pressure I feel is from fans who dm me wanting new music.. so that’s a very manageable pressure and is actually really motivating.
