Sit Down with Chicago The Chicago music scene has produced a wide array of talent musically. From Kanye to Lil Durk and Chief Keef. It also has its R&B scene with artists like Ann Marie, Tink, and many more like the upcoming singer M.T.G.
For some R&B fans, M.T.G. (Movin Towards Greatness), has been on a verge of success from charting singles to co-writing with other artist. His latest release Only Fans was another notch in his crown.
His first appearance on a single was in 2014 with another Chicago native, Tink on a record titled “Other One”. The song would go on to go viral on Twitter and receive an on Apple Music’s charts.
The follow-up record was with a young artist from Toronto by the name of Tory Lanez on a track called “100”. The “Jerry Sprunger” singer graced the chorus with a flashy hook about meeting a girl in the club. M.T.G. and Tory would reach radio and receive downloads from all over the world with many inspired remakes to the song.
To date, M.T.G. has collaborated with other artist like Dreezy, No1-Noah, Chika, and more. We recently sat down to see what else is to come from the singer.
When will we expect new music from you?
Later this month. I knocked out a few hundred songs. Sometimes it’s hard to pick them out.
We know what M.T.G. stands for at this point, what is your real name?
Jeffery Walton. I got used to having my nickname tho.
What is a life lesson that you’ve learned and made an impact on your life?
Paying it forward. I had a lot of people who I’ve met and helped me out. The only thing they asked was to help somebody else when the opportunity came. I think sometimes helping people with no expectation brings good back to you.
Over the years, you’ve been known to where a Chicago White Sox hat. Is this your favorite team or just a part of your style?
It’s my favorite team. I’m from Chicago. I went to the games were my favorite part of growing up. Even when I’m not home I still have it with me. Not just the team but the city.
Can you give me a moment that you won’t ever forget?
I have a million. I think seeing my songs on charts, certain times people recognized me or just thinking about when you first wanted to get going versus now looking at everything. I know way more.
