“I found myself in a new environment but somehow still experiencing the same downfalls, problems issues, and relationships even though it felt like I was in a new place, new world” says Elaine when speaking about the new single. “It was mind blowing because I saw myself growing, leaving old relationships, and becoming a different person but still coming across the same common problems in relationships….emotionally unavailable.”
“Deja Vu” comes on the heels of Elaine’s recent move to Los Angeles and follows the release of her dreamy single “Shine” and the sleek banger “Right Now,” which received coverage from NYT, UPROXX, HYPEBEAST, Teen Vogue and more. Previously, she dropped the sultry visual for “Risky,” a standout track from her history-making debut EP, 2019’s Elements. The 7-song certified-platinum collection blends mellow yet sweet R&B melodies with hints of trap-inspired moodiness and catapulted Elaine to becoming the first independent female artist to ever reach #1 on the Apple Music Sub-Saharan African charts. Featured in Essence’s 21 Artists To Watch, Elaine continues to work on her debut major-label album that will discuss newfound independence as she aims to shed light on South Africa’s burgeoning music scene. Check out Elaine this weekend in NYC as she hits the Everyday People stage this Saturday September 24th at Knockdown Center.
