The New General Catalogue, also known as Fantasy File and Tsar Joe, also known as NGC, have released a new single entitled “River,” which combines several genres into a masterful melody centered around love woes that everyone can identify with. Their latest release was explained further in a press release by the South London duo:
“River” is a song about insecurities when it comes to relationships and how fear of being replaced by someone else can alter how one perceives someone. In cases where their partner’s trust is lacking and no trust has been placed in them, people tend to put their trust in the wrong things. Therefore, the lyrics are titled, ‘Place your trust in me baby.’ The song is a reflection of our mood as well as our experiences in life, as well as our desire to create music that is both introspective and able to be listened to at any time and by anybody.”
“River” follows last year’s “Set101 & 102,” In contrast to this new era of music, which echoes the newer drop’s EDM and soul elements, they tell their own stories without a heavy vocal or the usual smoke and mirrors that surround music at present. Additionally, fans can see distorted, vintage clips of footage that reflect the video’s overall message via Paul Johnson Rojas (known by the stage name Pol.Ocho) of Say Goodnight Films, who developed a visual accompaniment to accompany the song. In addition, the duo explains:
As an esoteric and artistic piece, The Visualiser is intended to visually stimulate the viewer and open their minds to a “River” of risqué thoughts and feelings, at the same time being oddly beautiful in a way that is both dark and twisted. The chaos rages, but the harmony subsides.” Is a cure and a torment to the senses.
