The Rhode Island artist embraces a fresh chapter rooted in his relationship with God, bringing contemporary R&B and pop sounds together with an uplifting message.
For Cassius, music began long before studios, stages and streaming platforms. It started in church.
Growing up singing in church, Cassius was introduced to music at an early age, inspired by his grandmother, who sang, and an older brother who consistently encouraged him to use his voice. Those beginnings ultimately planted the foundation for an artistic journey that has now brought Cassius into what he considers one of the most meaningful chapters of his career.
After previously creating secular music, Cassius is making a fresh start as a Christian artist, centering his sound around Christian R&B and pop while maintaining the versatility that has become an important part of his identity.
For Cassius, the transition represents more than changing genres. It is about changing the purpose behind the music.
“I hope my music doesn’t only make people feel good, but makes people be good to other people.”
FAITH MEETS A MODERN SOUND
Cassius approaches Christian music without wanting to be confined to one sonic lane. His creative process often begins with something as simple as a melody—whether discovered while playing guitar, building a beat or collaborating with a producer—and develops naturally into a complete record.
That freedom is central to what he wants listeners to experience.
Rather than knowing exactly what the next Cassius record will sound like, he wants his audience to anticipate the unexpected. R&B, pop, live instrumentation and contemporary production can all become part of the equation, with faith serving as the thread connecting everything.
The goal, he says, is for listeners to eventually describe his catalog with one reaction:
“We don’t know what to expect next.”
His influences reflect that same range. Cassius points to artists including Tori Kelly, Lecrae, Hulvey, Forrest Frank, Brandon Lake, DaniLeigh, Alex Jean and Cru Alxndr as potential dream collaborators and sources of inspiration, particularly because of their versatility, sound and performance quality.
FROM RHODE ISLAND TO BIGGER STAGES
Cassius enters his new chapter with live-performance experience already behind him.
He has performed at the University of Rhode Island, appeared at Atlanta’s A3C Music Festival, opened for R&B artist Jacquees, and performed at additional shows throughout Rhode Island.
His musical perspective also stretches beyond the current generation.
Cassius draws inspiration from artists who built lasting careers before social media and streaming transformed the business, particularly the legendary acts associated with the Motown era and its surrounding generations. The Jackson 5, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Earth, Wind & Fire represent an era of musicianship, songwriting and performance that continues to influence how he thinks about becoming a complete artist.
At the same time, Cassius recognizes how dramatically the internet has changed what is possible for independent artists. Streaming and social platforms have effectively given musicians their own stages, allowing an artist to reach someone across the world without waiting for traditional gatekeepers to provide the opportunity.
MUSIC WITH SOMETHING TO SAY
Cassius wants to use that reach for something bigger than streams.
He believes mainstream music has room for significantly more love, positivity and spiritually uplifting messages, and he wants his own catalog to contribute to that change.
His philosophy is rooted in a simple piece of advice that has stayed with him throughout his journey:
“As long as you love it, you’ll never stop doing it.”
That mindset extends beyond music. Had he not pursued a career as an artist, Cassius says he likely would have become a barber or hairstylist—another creative profession that has played a role in shaping his life.
But music remains the calling.
Now, Cassius is approaching it with renewed direction.
As he separates himself from his previous secular catalog and establishes his identity within Christian music, his mission is to create records capable of connecting with listeners regardless of where they are in their own lives or spiritual journeys.
Ultimately, Cassius hopes the songs can become an invitation—encouraging listeners to develop a personal relationship with God and open their hearts to Jesus.
His message entering this new era is simple: a person’s past does not determine what God can do with their future.
No matter who they are or what their story has been, Cassius believes God can still use them in mighty ways.
And as this next chapter unfolds, Cassius intends to demonstrate that Christian music doesn’t have to sacrifice creativity, versatility or contemporary sound to carry a meaningful message.
For him, this isn’t simply a genre change.
It’s a new beginning.
