Ivan Brooks recently released the visuals for his trendy track titled, “Flowers”! This is a rousing R&B hymn for resilience, honoring those who most deserve it and who should be given their “flowers”.
Residing in Rhode Island by way of Liberia, Africa, this singer-songwriter took his musical talents to the States in hopes of a better life. Ivan spent two years of his childhood in Ghana, as a refugee after escaping the horrible Vivian war in Liberia. Ivan and his family were one of the lucky few selected refugee families that came to the United States during that time.
Local producer Justin Graham recognized Ivan’s musical talent while he was singing in the neighborhood church choir and high school talent competitions. Ivan went on to win the 2008 Underground Music Awards in Time Square, competing against Nicki Minaj and other up-and-coming musicians. As a result, Ivan was named Best Male R&B Artist at B.B Kings that year. He rubbed shoulders with stars like J Cole, who was just starting out in his career, in these environments from L.A. to NYC. Although, Cole gave Ivan a lot of mentorship advice, the one that stuck with him was to combine his skill and determination to be resilient.
