Brooklyn-bred femcee Maiya The Don is coming into the fourth quarter hot with her viral new record called “Telfy” — an ode to everyone getting and staying in their bags, or Telfar bags, to be specific. The bubbling record organically received a big wave of traction on Maiya’s TikTok account, just days before its full release. The Brooklyn native also teased a new video which exclusively dropped on the same day, paying much homage to the popular black-owned brand, and now fans are raving about Maiya even more. In less than two weeks, the visual alone has reached a quarter of a million streams and counting on Youtube.
The single is definitely a bop, sampling Sisqo’s hit single “The Thong Song” — but with Maiya’s swift punchlines, raspy voice, and subtle NYC drill cadence instead. The original track was dedicated to get people dancing, and “Telfy” creates the same energy 23 years later. With the goal to make others feel as comfortable and confident as she is, Maiya The Don surely hit the nail on the nose with this feel-good record, and it definitely gets the girlies in their “Telfy,” as the track alludes.
