In the birthplace of Hip Hop, over 40 legendary artists united this past weekend at Yankee Stadium to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the genre. The Bronx was filled with special guests such as Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wu Tang, Method Man, Wiz Khalifa, Ashanti, Too $hort, and more along with headliners Run DMC, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, and many many more. Live Nation’s content team went behind the scenes at this iconic event with Ice Cube, T.I., DJ Battlecat, DJ Marley Marl, DJ Mannie Fresh, Wu-Tang Clan (Ghostface Killah & Inspectah Deck) to share their experience of falling in love with Hip Hop for the first time and how it changed their lives.
“I fell in love with Hip Hop in 1979… I was hooked from that day on. Hip Hop means everything to me, it’s a way for us to communicate, it’s a way for us to unify” – Ice Cube
“Most of us came over here and we were stripped of our culture, our traditions. Although we didn’t have it for a period, Hip Hop was the culture that we created.” – T.I.
“I have embraced this infectious movement called Hip Hop and it’s now the soundtrack and the heartbeat to your life.” – DJ Battlecat
