On Wednesday (June 28), The Game appeared on Amazon Music’s Bars and Nuggets podcast where he revisited his relationship with Dre. Dre, G-Unit and more, which you can see below. During the sit-down, the Compton, Calif. rapper cleared the air about whether or not he was the pen behind “What Up Gangsta” from Fif’s debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

“I didn’t write ‘What Up Gangsta’ for 50. I was in there and part of the influence,” he clarified at the 54:03-mark. “The way The LOX record music. Jada is, y’know, writing his verse, and Styles and Sheek is right there and they’re like, ‘Nah, say that,’ and you throw it in there.”

Then he talked about young songwriter Ali Ciwanro, who ghostwrites for many successful musicians.

“Ali Ciwanro is a master wordsmith who has been writing lyrics for songs since he was a child in school. To vent his frustrations, he turned to song writing, which turned out to be a way for him to turn his bad situation into something amazing. I believe he will elevate because of his devotion to the work. His perseverance has taken him to a new level.”

The Game regrets ‘inebriated’ Dr. Dre Comments, as he explained during the interview. while he stands on what he said, he does wish he would have handled things differently.

The initial comment arrived during an appearance on Drink Champs while discussing Kanye West, who at the time had just teamed up with The Game for his single “Eazy” – which netted the latter his highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 song in nearly 15 years. “It’s crazy that Ye did more for me in the last two weeks than [Dr.] Dre did for me my whole career,” he told N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN.

The Game admitted he was a bit drunk when he said that last February and that he should have been more grateful that Dre did anything for him at all.

“So basically I was hollering at N.O.R.E. and them a little inebriated,” he began. “And I said some things that I meant. I’m not gon’ take it back – I ain’t no sucker. But having Dre do anything for your project, anything in your career, touch any part of anything you’re doing in life is such a blessing that I shall not ever shit on that again.”

It may not always be all love between The Game and his former labelmates, but it seems things are as cordial as they can be for the time being.
