Media Personalities Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg from the Juan Ep Is Life Podcast have released their newest interview with Dance Hall legend Vybz Kartel. This is Vybz Kartel’s first interview since he was released after his 13-year sentence. Cipha and Rosenberg talked to Vybz about his experiences of recording music in prison, his plans of marrying his fiancee, and how he maintained his confidence during his sentence.
Vybz told Cipha and Peter how he recorded music during his incarceration. He described using his mattress as the padding a studio would have. Then, he would wrap the mattress around his head and rapped the recordings on his knees with his phone three feet away from his face.
Cipha and Rosenberg stated that “Fever” was one of Vybz’s biggest songs, and he recorded it, along with many others, during his sentence. He would then have the music sent to an outside engineer to get the recording as clean as possible.
Peter Rosenberg confirmed with Vybz Kartel that Vybz is having a show on December 31st in Jamaica. In Vybz’s words, “It’s the biggest concert in Jamaica since Bob Marley.” He also said he has other shows coming up in other Caribbean countries and South America.
Vybz and the co-hosts discussed Kartel’s health. Vybz has a personal trainer who is getting him in shape for his return show on December 31st. He’s grateful for how the Jamaican streets have given him plenty of love since his return outside. Vybz also thanked everyone who wrote letters and sent gifts to him during his incarceration.
When Rosenberg asked who Vybz would collaborate with in music today, Vybz said Wayne. They talked about how Drake’s and Kendrick’s music is loved in Jamaica, and Kartel gave both of them flowers.
