Rising R&B star Iam Shamar has officially inked a distribution deal with Roc Nation, the powerhouse entertainment company founded by Jay-Z. The announcement comes just weeks before the release of his highly anticipated new album, The City That Never Sleeps, set to drop on June 20th.
The deal marks a major milestone for the Brooklyn native, who has spent the past decade building a loyal fanbase with his emotionally charged lyrics, polished vocal performances, and genre-blending sound. Known for his heartfelt storytelling and a growing catalog of hits like “Make It Home,” “Sex Noises,” and “So Real” featuring Fabolous, Iam Shamar continues to prove he’s one of the most promising names in modern R&B.
“Partnering with Roc Nation on distribution is a full-circle moment,” said Shamar. “It means more people will hear my truth. This new album is my most vulnerable work yet — it’s about grind, pain, betrayal, love, and triumph. I’m honored to have Roc Nation behind me as I take this next step.”
Shamar’s upcoming album, The City That Never Sleeps, is expected to be a raw, cinematic body of work, reflecting life in New York City after dark — its temptations, ambitions, heartbreaks, and late-night dreams. The project features collaborations with Ne-Yo, Babydaddysnatcher, Miss T, and Morganical, and has been described as a “memoir with melodies” by early industry insiders.
In the weeks leading up to the album release, Shamar has kept fans engaged with a strategic rollout including remix drops, music video teasers, and a skit-driven promo for the track “Why Do TMZ Follow Me.” He’s also been candid about his personal struggles, using the album’s promo cycle to address issues like fatherhood, betrayal, and industry politics.
With the Roc Nation deal in place, Shamar is set to reach a wider audience while maintaining full creative control. The distribution partnership allows him to continue releasing music under his own imprint, while benefiting from Roc Nation’s global reach and infrastructure.
Iam Shamar will premiere the video for “Put A Happy Face” on May 23, which will coincide with the official album preorder launch. He is also slated to perform select dates this summer, including a major hometown release concert in NYC.
As he prepares to make his biggest statement yet, it’s clear that Iam Shamar is no longer just one to watch — he’s one to follow.
