Anderson .Paak and Cordae have released “A Good Day,” the first single from their upcoming joint album Heavy Is the Crown, due October 23 through APESHIT + EMPIRE and Hi Level + Mass Appeal. The track finds .Paak leaning back into the rap-forward style that first built his name, trading sharp, playful verses with Cordae over a beat that nods to the warmth of the classic “Lovely Day” while borrowing some of the energy associated with the late Fatman Scoop’s adlibs. The pairing gives the song a lighthearted, throwback feel without sacrificing the technical interplay both artists are known for. A companion music video, directed with a clear homage to the film “Friday” and featuring actress Jennifer Freeman, leans into that same humor, casting .Paak and Cordae as good-natured rivals competing for the same love interest while keeping their real-life chemistry front and center throughout.

The single arrives alongside a broader rollout for Heavy Is the Crown, which the two announced as their first full collaborative project since building a rapport that dates back to their work on “RNP,” a standout from Cordae’s debut album The Lost Boy. Ahead of the album’s release, the duo has lined up an extensive physical release campaign, including six retailer-exclusive vinyl editions, a zoetrope variant for direct-to-consumer sales, and cassette and CD versions, with the CD featuring lenticular artwork that shifts from the album cover into an image of the two rapping face to face. .Paak, a nine-time Grammy winner raised in Oxnard, California, was recently named to TIME’s 2026 list of the 100 Most Influential People, while Cordae, a Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum lyricist from the Washington, D.C., area, has spent recent years building a catalog of acclaimed solo work and features alongside artists including Eminem, Kanye West and Stevie Wonder. Heavy Is the Crown is available now for pre-save, with the album set for release October 23.
