Some artists chase a sound. Berrybillionx built his from nothing but curiosity and a borrowed laptop.
His story doesn’t begin in a studio session or a record label meeting. It begins in church, where he first got close to music by playing instrumentals. That early exposure planted something in him — not yet a career, just a pull he couldn’t ignore.
There was no formal training, no expensive gear. What he had was his sister’s laptop and a willingness to figure things out on his own. He taught himself the basics of beat-making through trial and error, slowly converting raw ideas into finished sounds. It was slow, unglamorous work — the kind that rarely gets noticed until much later.
The turning point came through people, not equipment. Friends started introducing him to other artists, and those introductions became collaborations. Each session taught him something new — how to build a record, how to write with intention, how to hold onto his own identity even while learning from others. Bit by bit, those rooms shaped the artist now known as Berrybillionx.
A sound that won’t stay in one lane
Ask Berrybillionx to describe his genre and you won’t get a single answer. His music pulls from Afrobeats, Afro fusion, Hip Hop, and the broader wave of contemporary African sound — blended in a way that prioritizes energy and melody over fitting a label. He treats genre as a starting point, not a boundary.
That range shows up across his catalogue. “ATTENTION,” his collaboration with Nigerian artist ODUMODUBLVCK, marked one of his standout moments. He followed it with “Ebg (Episode of a Bad Girl)” and “How Many,” the latter bringing in Rhatti, Laime, and Sambalitual.
In 2024, he expanded that body of work with “Fr2r,” a six-track EP featuring GRNDPA, Blaqboi otb, INSANE CHIPS, Zenn, Sambalitual, Psycho YP, Hotkid, and Laime — a project that reads almost like a map of the artists who’ve shaped his sound.
More than a release schedule
For Berrybillionx, none of this is really about the numbers — plays, features, or project counts. It’s about what a song does to someone the moment they hear it. He wants his music to make people move, take them back to a memory, hand them a bit of confidence, or just give them somewhere else to be for a few minutes. If it does that, he considers the job done.
No blueprint, just momentum
There’s no neat formula behind his rise — no mentor who handed him a roadmap, no shortcut that skipped the years of self-teaching. What he had was curiosity, a laptop that wasn’t even his, and the discipline to keep showing up.
From church instrumentals to late nights producing on borrowed equipment, from chance introductions to artists to a growing catalogue of his own — Berrybillionx’s path proves that readiness is overrated. Starting is what matters.
