Wale celebrated his hometown in a major way over Juneteenth weekend, bringing fans together for the debut of his two-day “Live in the District” concert series at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The sold-out event drew more than 8,000 attendees across two nights and featured performances from Wale, Smino, Alex Vaughn, Foggieraw and the original members of legendary go-go band UCB. The weekend coincided with Wale’s Everything Is A Lot. North American Tour and showcased the deep musical roots of the DMV through a mix of hip-hop, R&B and go-go.
The celebration also delivered several memorable moments, including UCB’s first performance together in more than 14 years as the group commemorated the 20th anniversary of its classic record “Sexy Lady.” Lizzo surprised the crowd with a performance, while additional appearances from IDK, Nino Paid, Eris The Planet, J’TA, 3ohBlack, Lightshow and Yung Manny kept the energy high throughout the weekend. Mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George also attended the event, and rapper 3ohBlack proposed to his girlfriend onstage, drawing one of the weekend’s biggest reactions. The inaugural concert series continues Wale’s commitment to investing in his hometown through music and community-driven events.
