Whether it’s your local neighborhood or the high fashion world, few voices resonate the same as the authenticity and real world aesthetic of BP (Better Positions) founder IP.
IP, the creative mind behind BP, has emerged as a compelling figure in the fashion scene— part artist, part storyteller, and a curator to the LA fashion scene. His vision has become what is known today as “BP” short for Better Positions and his highly anticipated limited edition collections blend resilience with high-fashion sophistication. IP isn’t simply designing clothes or telling his own story; he’s picking up the pieces of a torn city and crafting a whole new mosaic for the world; his own narrative blending transformation, community, soul and the classic tale of faith and redemption. He speaks from the depths of his heart to inspire the next generation of tastemakers and leaders.
Our recent conversation with the young designer reveals the depth of his vision behind the appealing aesthetic and zeal that’s quickly making him a name in the fashion sphere.
When asked about the main influences shaping his creativity for clothes, IP offers a reflection that is both metaphorical and poetic on his creative inspiration, one that is deeply rooted in survival and silent storytelling amongst his love for the city that raised him.
“My creativity comes from contrast. Pressure and peace. Survival and elevation. I’ve always been inspired by transformation—how people can come from certain environments… but still hold their head up high and carry themselves greater. Like a lot of people… music influences me, film influences me; and so does architecture, emotion… so does silence. A lot of my creativity comes from moments people never see and stories they’ll never hear. I think the best designs always tell their stories without speaking a single word.”
IP’s personal philosophies, his intrinsic and altruistic values pulse throughout his garment and vision for the world of high fashion. With designs often juxtaposing rugged textures contrasting with luxurious draping, much like the backdrop of urban silhouettes with architectural precision that he subconsciously draws his obsessive inspiration from, a raw emotion from his own experiences serve to refine his own tailoring like a sharp metallic jacket, featuring subtle details inspired by city soundscapes, heated tensions and the deafening silence that follows in its footsteps.
IP seems to always draw from the unseen—the late-night studio sessions, the quiet observation of strangers navigating the streets at odd hours, and the never ending soundtrack of a city that doesn’t sleep… rich with endless rhythm, rebellion and self made ascent. A chaos that’s constrained by order and architectural perfection often hidden with structural decay. A everlasting boldness in the garment that mirrors the same reflective and towering City of Angels, where it was made, along with its founder.
BP doesn’t just dress the body, but accentuates the vibration in resonance for those who’ve been lost and overcome their own pain. Those who now choose to move through the world with quiet power. While many in the fashion world are criticized for superficiality and a wide disconnect, IP keeps it personal and often times familiar, with each piece being a unique memoir, deeply rooted in tall tales and urban legends of ascent.
IP collaborates with other locals and up and coming creatives to share their experiences, stories and share a part of each others timelines:
“When it feels aligned, I like to do collaborations that feel natural and intentional. The best creative work happens when people bring different perspectives but still understand the bigger vision. For me energy matters just as much as talent.”
By making an impact with other local artists and creative minds; IP becomes more of a curator than just another designer, meticulously and selflessly working to help craft the next chapter in Los Angeles fashion history along with that of his own work.
