“100 Black Men, Give $100” campaign aims to raise $10,000 for a film centering Black men’s stories, vulnerability, and healing
In recognition of International Men’s Day on November 19, the producers of The Fade Project are calling on communities to support a fundraiser for the upcoming documentary exploring Black men’s mental health.
The fundraiser is part of “100 Black Men, Give $100,” a community campaign with a goal of raising $10,000 for the film’s production and post-production. The initiative invites 100 Black men to contribute $100 each, while welcoming support from anyone who believes in the importance of the project. Contributions of any amount are welcome.
International Men’s Day highlights positive role models and men’s well-being. Throughout November, men’s health campaigns also encourage open conversations, regular check-ins, and reaching out for support. The Fade Project brings those themes into a culturally familiar space: the Black barbershop.

Co-produced by public health leader and community advocate Duante’ Brown and filmmaker Bernard Love, the documentary follows four Black men’s personal journeys alongside perspectives from mental health professionals and cultural experts. It explores how expectations around masculinity, identity, and strength can shape emotional well-being—and how connection can help make room for healing.
“For generations, Black men have been conditioned to be strong, to push through adversity, and to carry the weight of expectations without always having the space to acknowledge what we’re experiencing emotionally,” said Brown, co-producer of The Fade Project and founder and CEO of The Heir Agency LLC. “We want this documentary to challenge that narrative. Black men deserve the freedom to be vulnerable, to seek support, and to be seen as fully human.”
For Love, the barbershop is a powerful place to begin that conversation.
“For generations, the barbershop has been a place where Black men come together to laugh, debate, share experiences, and build community,” Love said. “But beneath those everyday conversations are real stories about the pressures we face, the emotions we carry, and the things we don’t always know how to express.”
The fundraiser recognizes that conversations about men’s mental health can start with simple actions:
checking in with a friend or family member, listening without judgment, and understanding that asking for help is a sign of strength. The film aims to encourage those conversations across generations and communities while showing that there is no single Black male experience.
“Regardless of sexuality, religion, identity, background, or lived experience, every Black man deserves to be seen, heard, understood, and supported,” Brown said.

Funds raised will help cover filming, interviews, production crews, equipment, editing, sound design, and other finishing needs. The producers also hope to bring the completed film to communities through screenings and facilitated discussions.
“This campaign is about more than raising $10,000. It’s about ownership, community investment, and recognizing the importance of telling our own stories,” Brown said. “Whether someone gives $10, $100, or $1,000, they’re contributing to a project that we hope will spark conversations in families, communities, and spaces where Black men may not have always felt comfortable discussing their mental health.”
Supporters may also donate in honor or memory of a Black man who has made a difference in their lives by including a dedication with their contribution.
