In 2011, Ashton Burrell wasn’t waiting for someone else to create change—he became the catalyst for it. What began as a college sophomore’s vision to mentor young people has, fifteen years later, evolved into a movement that has empowered more than 3,000 students, influenced public policy, mobilized humanitarian relief, and established Burrell as one of the Nation’s most respected voices for community leadership. In 2026, his work stands as proof that lasting impact is built through consistency, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.
By the time most college sophomores are focused on earning their degrees, Ashton Burrell was already building a movement.
While attending Lincoln University, Burrell founded the Live Mentorship Program (LMP) with a simple yet ambitious vision: to provide guidance, encouragement, and opportunity to young people navigating some of life’s most critical years. What began as a grassroots mentoring initiative has since grown into one of the region’s most respected youth development programs, positively influencing more than 3,000 students and maintaining an extraordinary 100 percent graduation rate among every senior who has completed the program.
For Burrell, mentoring has never been about simply offering advice. It has been about building relationships, creating accountability, and helping young people discover the confidence to define their own futures. Serving youth between the ages of 9 and 19 from diverse backgrounds and communities, the Live Mentorship Program has become a model of how consistency, compassion, and leadership can change lives. His commitment to service extends far beyond mentoring.
As the founder of the Hometown Hero Club, Burrell has spent more than a decade creating initiatives that strengthen communities through education, civic engagement, and humanitarian service. Whether organizing social justice marches, advocating for judicial equity, or encouraging greater diversity and fairness in corporate hiring practices, he has consistently demonstrated that leadership requires action.
When communities across the country faced devastating natural disasters, Burrell answered the call. He helped coordinate relief efforts for more than 500 families impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Hurricane Florence in North Carolina. Understanding that education remains one of the most powerful tools for changing lives, he also led initiatives that donated hundreds of books to schools in West Philadelphia his native city, helping provide students with greater access to learning resources.
His passion for public service has also led him into positions of statewide leadership. Burrell currently serves as Chairman of the Human Relations Council for the State of New Jersey after being appointed by the Governor, where he works to promote fairness, equity, and stronger relationships among communities throughout the state. He is also a member of the NAACP Next Generation of Leaders, continuing his commitment to advancing civil rights, leadership development, and community advocacy.
Throughout his career, Burrell’s work has earned recognition from organizations and institutions across the nation. His leadership has been featured by USA Today, the OWN Network, and BET, while his dedication to community service has been honored through numerous awards, including the Johnson & Johnson Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award, the NAACP New Brunswick Branch President’s Award, the Spread the Word Humanitarian Award, and the Highland Park Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award.

Yet despite the accolades, Burrell’s greatest accomplishments are measured not in trophies but in transformed lives.
An accomplished author, Burrell has published three books centered on leadership, purpose, and personal growth, extending his mentorship beyond classrooms and community centers to readers seeking inspiration. His message has reached audiences around the world through lectures and keynote presentations at prestigious institutions including Princeton University, Rutgers University, the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and numerous schools and organizations throughout the United States.
Education has remained a central pillar of Burrell’s journey. A proud graduate of The Lincoln University the first degree granting historically black college, he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Business with a concentration in Human Resources Management. Continuing his lifelong commitment to learning, he is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development as a member of the Class of 2027.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Burrell recently expanded his influence in higher education by serving as an Academic Course Advisor and Analyst for Seton Hall University, where he helps shape educational experiences for future leaders.
Looking across Ashton Burrell’s career, a common thread emerges. Every initiative, every speech, every mentorship session, and every act of service reflects a belief that true leadership is measured not by personal achievement, but by the lives empowered along the way.
For more than a decade, Burrell has demonstrated that meaningful change begins with investing in people. Whether mentoring a student, advocating for equity, responding to communities in crisis, or inspiring audiences across the globe, he continues to build a legacy grounded in service, education, and opportunity.
His story serves as a reminder that the most enduring leaders are those who dedicate themselves to lifting others—and in doing so, leave a lasting impact that extends far beyond their own success.
