Latin pop is overdue for a genuine club record, and La’Ci might just be the one to deliver it. On April 20, the rising bicultural star dropped “Major,” a sweat-drenched, high-BPM urban dance track that takes dead aim at the dance floor.
While she is currently in the studio crafting her upcoming EP with five-time Grammy winner Jerry Wonda—the veteran architect behind massive hits for the Fugees, Shakira, and Carlos Santana—La’Ci took a different route for “Major.” The track is a relentless mix of reggaeton dembow, driving EDM basslines, and jagged hyperpop elements. It’s loud, it’s fast, and it doesn’t give you much room to catch your breath. Driven by hypnotic, repetitive club chants like “Kitty cat cat” and “This that major,” the song bridges the gap between massive festival stages and the chaotic, pulsating energy of a warehouse rave.
“Major” serves as the latest preview of La’Ci’s forthcoming debut EP, The Gringa Files. The project’s title is a deliberate flip of a historically loaded term, acting as a middle finger to cultural marginalization and a celebration of “Spanglish” duality. Drawing from her own queer Caribbean Latina identity, La’Ci’s approach is unapologetically raw and sex-positive. On “Major,” she holds nothing back, delivering sexually liberated lines like “I’m horny, I’m nasty” alongside fiercely defiant warnings like “Hop off my d*ck ho get back”. She’s channeling the provocateur energy of artists like Tokischa and Young Miko, pairing it with a visual aesthetic that crashes cyberpunk futurism right into Caribbean streetwear.
She isn’t just making pop music; she’s building a bicultural manifesto for a generation that refuses to pick a single side of their heritage. With its aggressive delivery and unapologetic confidence, “Major” proves that if this track is any indication of what’s to come, The Gringa Files is going to be a massive problem when it finally lands.
